Story and Mission:
After experiencing three miscarriages and walking through seasons of depression and anxiety, I reached a point where my faith and mental health could no longer live in separate worlds. I needed healing — not just spiritually, but emotionally. That journey reshaped everything about how I see God, myself, and the Church.
I’m Leslie Maldonado Ortiz — a first-generation Latina, wife, and a Christian women. I’m currently pursuing a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with plans to continue on to a PhD in Clinical Psychology. I’m also obtain a B.A. in psychology and sociology from Wesleyan University.
The Armor Room was born out of lived experience and spiritual clarity. I’ve walked through the silence, the stigma, and the struggle that often keep mental health hidden in Christian spaces. In so many Christian churches, mental health is rarely talked about — and when it is, emotional pain is often minimized, spiritualized, or pushed aside with “just pray about it.” That silence can leave believers feeling isolated, ashamed, or even questioning their faith.
That’s why I created The Armor Room: to build a movement of believers who are both spiritually grounded and mentally strong. Our mission is to provide hope, healing, and honest conversations for those who love God but are also hurting inside.
This isn’t just a project — it’s a purpose. The Armor Room is a safe space where Christians can be open about their pain without fear of judgment, and where faith and mental health are not enemies but partners in healing. Our goal is to bridge the gap with love, wisdom, and grace — so that no believer has to choose between their faith and their mental well-being.
